Here is a guest reflection by Sarah Mathews Howard, (a friend from Trinity U) on her Star word: Refreshment
Refreshment – what an interesting word – the first thing that came to mind was snacks. Seemed kind of weird to associate snacking with God’s word, but then as I thought about it and prayed about it, I realized this is just what I need – to snack on God’s word – often!
My life has been in a rut lately – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I’ve been just trudging along – going through the motions – I get up, get dressed, go to work, come home, cook dinner and then I’m ready for bed – don’t want to do anything, see anyone, talk to anyone and unfortunately, that also means, I haven’t wanted to pray.
I like to believe that I’ve got everything under control when in reality, I am at my wit’s end. So, this weekend, I decided to do something about it. Read the first book in the Left Behind series. (Yes, I know, I’m about 15 years behind everyone else on this.) Signed up for a devotional to be delivered to my in-box. Downloaded a “Bible in a Year” reading plan – something I’ve often thought about, but never had the discipline to actually do and while I’m not likely to get all the way through the Bible since two months have nearly passed already this year, I will be well on my way.
Stay tuned – I’m sure there will be more to come
